Adult Literacy & Empowerment
CACI partners with Adult Learning and Empowerment Facilitators (ALEF), Sweden, to implement this long term learning program in Wakiso District. It is specifically designed for young people and adults aged 15 to 50, with a focus on women, especially mothers of school age children.
The program uses a custom learning method developed by CACI. This method integrates conversations about daily life challenges into the process of learning to read, write, and work with numbers. Literacy is approached not just as a technical skill but as a tool for addressing everyday needs, building confidence, and creating new opportunities for social and economic participation.
Classes are led by trained community facilitators who live in the same areas as the participants. These facilitators provide a familiar, safe, and supportive learning environment. Each group forms close social ties throughout the program, and by the end, participants are encouraged to continue as a business group to further their financial independence.
The full program spans three years. It includes learning in the local language, English, and mathematics. By equipping participants with practical literacy and numeracy skills, the program builds the foundation for lifelong empowerment. Literacy becomes the first step toward gaining control over one’s life and participating in society with dignity and confidence.
