Vocational Skills Workshop

This program is designed for both unemployed youth and mothers who are seeking practical skills to generate income and build independent livelihoods. Many participants face significant barriers to formal employment or education. Through this training, they gain the tools to support their families and increase the chances their children can attend school.

The workshop provides direct training in areas such as hairdressing, tailoring, garment making, fashion design, knitting, cobbling, shoe making, leather work, craft making, and computer skills. Each participant receives a certificate upon completion, helping them transition into employment or entrepreneurship. Some graduates remain connected to the workshop, creating and selling handmade products to the local community in Ndejje. These include jewelry made from beads and recycled paper, bags and baskets crafted from dyed banana fibers, hand bound books, soaps, and more.

The workshop is also a space of social connection. Through learning and working together, participants build friendships and mutual support networks that extend beyond the classroom.

Beyond skills and income, the workshop fosters confidence, purpose, and long term stability. Participants leave not only with practical abilities but with renewed belief in their own potential. As they build their futures, they also uplift their families and strengthen the social fabric of their communities.

Tailoring

This course focuses on women and girls, including teenage mothers and those who dropped out of school due to financial hardship. Participants learn to use both manual and electric sewing machines, cut patterns, and make a wide range of garments including dresses, wedding gowns, uniforms, and clothing for children and men.

The full training takes two years. Upon completion, students receive orientation in marketing and financial skills. Those who cannot read or write are also enrolled in the adult literacy program alongside their vocational training

Hairdressing

Hairdressing students receive both theoretical and practical training in hair care, styling, braiding, facial treatments, manicures, and pedicures. In addition, each student receives two extra hours of business training each week

Craft Making

The CACI workshop also acts as a production center and stepping stone to employment. Graduates receive basic tools such as sewing machines and are encouraged to form small groups to support one another in self employment

Buy and Support

Dear friends, every item you purchase from the workshop helps support the lives of young women and mothers. Available products include a variety of African fabric items such as laptop bags, kitchen gloves, shopping bags, wallets, handbags, hairbands, neckties, table mats, clothing, and more.

We are deeply grateful to our supporters including Hannah from Australia and Beth Haley from the United States, who brought in volunteers to stand with the girls. We also thank the surrounding community for their continued care and encouragement. This workshop became a reality thanks to the generous donation of sewing machines by the Palle Moeller Foundation. We are truly thankful.
